Jude's Cake Smash & Splash | Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire Cake Smash Photographer

Cake Smash & Splashes are so much fun, you’ve probably heard me say that a thousand times on Instagram, Facebook and blogs how much I love them. There is nothing more fun than a squishy baby, cake and a splash bath. The studio has obviously been closed for some time, but as soon as I opened, it was time for little Jude to come in a celebrate his 1st birthday with a Cake Smash & Splash. Jude was 1 in June, but that doesn’t mean you have to have a Cake Smash on your birthday. Cake Smashes are still great to have after your little ones birthday, even if it was a couple of months ago!

We first started off with taking some portraits. This also gives your little ones time to feel comfortable in my studio and around me. Little Jude just came straight in and he was so ready to get started. I have photographed Jude so many times now and he’s just such a dream! Lots of smilies and giggles!

When coming in for your cake smash, I have a forever growing collection of clothing. Ready and waiting for you all to use. Everything is always freshly washed and available for your session. I have dresses, tops, jumpers, baby grows, nappy covers etc etc. There’s lots to choose from but of course you’re welcome to bring your own outfit. I would always suggest anything white, grey, beige or pale colours. Nothing with logos, bold colours or harsh patterns!

After a few portraits, the cake comes out and little Jude’s face just lit up! He was ready to go and within seconds, the cake topper was pulled out. I love to see how your little ones react to their cake smash. They are all honestly so different. Each child reacts in a different way and it’s so funny to see. Some are really slow at getting used to the idea of touching it and might need a little encouragement (perks for parents as you get to taste it to show your child that they’re allowed to eat it!)

After the smashing is done and your little one has had enough of the cake, out comes the most gorgeous little tub! Jude was so happy when he saw the bubbles going in, he couldn’t wait to hop on in and splash about. My studio literally becomes a water park, but it’s so funny to see. Having a little splash after the shoot means you can wash off all the cake from your little one, meaning they don’t go home all sticky! I supply a super soft fluffy towel for afterwards.

Once they’re all try, had a little sneak/drink/cuddle break, the last part of the session is the dressing gown bit. Babies in dressing gowns is just the cutest thing in the world. I have the most beautiful one from The Little White Company, it’s so soft and has tiny little ears on the hood. Jude loved having another play with all the wooden toys whilst I snapped away. Once Judes Mummy got him dressed again, we did some super quick portraits with them both. Can’t beat a Mummy & Baby photo! 😍

And that’s that! Any left over cake gets boxed up and given back to you. A lot of the time, little ones just play with the icing and nibble at the sponge so there’s usually plenty of leftovers. Perfect for when you’re sitting down with a cuppa and fancy a slice.

I can’t wait for all the upcoming cake smashes and Jude really did have the best time!
